The Israeli government's upcoming E1 settlement project risks destroying the future of a viable Palestinian state. The Foreign Secretary, Ed Miliband, has already called the project 'unacceptable and destructive'.
Today we are pleased to publish our comprehensive briefing, Legal Brief: Priority Measures for UK Policy on Palestine, published in partnership with the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP).
The need for action is increasingly urgent. Settlement expansion, settler violence and the forcible displacement of Palestinian communities in the West Bank are accelerating. At the same time, restrictions and attacks directed against UNRWA continue despite repeated international calls to protect the agency, its premises and its operations.
The forthcoming E1 tender deadline on 19th October further underlines the importance of ensuring that the UK acts before additional, potentially irreversible facts are created on the ground.
This briefing examines the practical consequences of UK law and policy across trade, financial relations, charitable funding, arms exports, and other forms of support. It assesses these policies against the UK’s existing obligations under international law, including those arising from the International Court of Justice’s Advisory Opinion of July 2024.
