The Voice of Muslim’s in the Labour Party...
The Labour Muslim Network (LMN) have an exciting opportunity for a Public Affairs Manager to join the LMN executive team. The successful candidate will lead LMN’s public engagement, ensuring that Government, the Labour Party and wider stakeholders are connected to our work, understand our members view and reflect our policy priorities.
We are after an individual who has an understanding of the UK Parliamentary system and processes, with experience working within the UK political system and the Labour Party as beneficial.
What will you be doing?
1.) Lead LMN’s Public Engagement Strategy:
-
Represent LMN in Westminster meetings and public engagements with Members of Parliament, regional Mayor’s, council leaders, and key stakeholders inside and outside the Labour Party.

Build relationships with important decision makers in government, across Whitehall and in the Labour Party.

Support the delivery of LMN’s 2025/26 engagement plan to include:
- Parliamentary events, visits,
- Conferences and external events
- new MP engagement plan

Promote and champion the policies important to Muslim communities to political leaders.
2.) Deliver Weekly Public and Private Briefings:

Write weekly briefings for Labour Members of Parliament (and occasionally local authority leaders) on key LMN policy and legislative priorities facing Westminster.

Write weekly private briefings for LMN executive team (and occasionally some of our external stakeholders) on key Parliamentary affairs and legislative timetables.

Working with a wider team in writing reports, analysis papers and public letters according to LMN’s changing political need.
3.) Build Relationships with Muslim Leaders in the Labour Party and the Wider Community:

Have/Develop strong working relations with MCB and other relevant Muslim leadership.

Lead LMN’s regular engagement with key stakeholders and faith based Labour organisations e.g. JLM, Christians on the Left, Labour Women’s Network, etc.
4.) Speechwriting and Parliamentary Questions:

Work with our Parliamentary colleagues in writing speeches to be delivered by MPs and politicians in Westminster.

Work with our Parliamentary colleagues in writing questions to be submitted to Ministers, at PMQ’s and beyond, by MPs and politicians in Westminster.
6.) Others:

Execute additional tasks as required in order to meet the LMN executives changing priorities.

Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing can be maintained.
What are we looking for?
Essential for the role:

Understanding of the UK Parliamentary system and processes.

Understanding of the UK political landscape and the Labour Party.
-
Understanding of the Muslim community in Britain and the political influences therein.
-
Experience of working within the UK political system.

Ability to draft technical papers such as reports, letters and policy papers.
-
Ability to present difficult topics efficiently and engagingly with senior stakeholders.
-
Ability to engage with a wider range of stakeholders.
-
Thorough understanding of Google Drive, Microsoft Office, Zoom.
Beneficial to have:

Understanding of the Muslim community sectors from a political perspective.

Experience in in-house delivery of public affairs in faith based organisations and/or other similar industries.

Experience writing reports and analysis papers.
-
Speech writing.

We currently work within a hybrid working model whereby the expectation is to work remotely as a base and be physically present in London for meetings and events as required by our team. We will continue to monitor this model and it may be adjusted in future if deemed necessary.
