The Labour Muslim Network is extremely concerned to see evidence in the recently leaked report of alleged Islamophobic abuse towards members and public representatives not acted upon, incidents of complaints covered up and even party staff members engaging in anti-Muslim bigotry.
This is unacceptable.
Many Muslims reading this report will be extremely troubled and angered by its contents. It appears the report has highlighted what many Muslim members, activists and representatives have been saying for some time: that the issues of Islamophobia is still not taken seriously in our party and is too often covered up and not acted upon.
We have therefore written to the Leader of the Labour Party Sir Keir Starmer MP and General Secretary Jennie Formby, expressing our deep concerns and asking to meet at the earliest possible convenience (once lockdown has been lifted and it is safe to do so) to discuss how we can move forward in tackling this critical issue in our party.
